Montpelier High School’s (MHS) co-educational sixth form, V6, has announced a fantastic set of results today, breaking school records for top grades and outstanding destinations. One in ten grades are the top A* with 30% of grades at A*/A and over half (55%) a B or above. The overall pass rate at A-level was 98%, with 77% of grades at A*- C.

Amongst the many V6 students who are celebrating is Katy Thackray who has achieved a perfect score of A*A*A*A*, securing a place at the University of Cambridge to read Computer Science. Also celebrating today is Jennifer Crossley and Alice Mason-Flucke. Jennifer achieved A*A*A*A and will read Chemistry with International Study at the University of Manchester; while Alice is heading to the University of Southampton to read Civil Engineering with A*A*A*.

Jennifer said:

I’m really happy with my results and can’t wait to study Chemistry at university. I’ve had a lovely experience at V6 and made some great friends. Thank you to all my teachers who have supported me.

Students who all achieved A*A*AA are Meena Morris who will read Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol; Isabel Munday will read Biochemistry at the University of Nottingham; and Tilly Aries will read Mathematics at the University of Leeds.

Meena said:

I’m so happy with my results and can’t wait to start at Bristol Uni. I’d love to work in robotics eventually. Studying Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics remotely during lockdown was tricky, but I had a really supportive network of friends and classmates, as well as brilliant teachers. My mum came with me to collect my results today and she hasn’t stopped smiling! This evening we’re going out for a family meal to celebrate.

Sisters Merve Ipek Bal and Yasmin Bal both achieved A*AAA, with Merve Ipek heading to the University of Exeter to read Computer Science and Yasmin to the University of Leeds to read Computer Science and Mathematics.

Hiba Ahmed achieved A*A*AB and EPQ (Extended Project Qualification) A*. Hiba plans to take a gap year before applying for a university place to study Medicine. Aamina Bashir achieved A*AA and will study Dentistry at the University of Bristol.

Going to Durham University is Isabelle Merry with A*A*B and EPQ A to read Modern Languages and Cultures; and Isabella Keedwell-Wallace with A*AA to read Geography. Heading for the University of Bath to read Chemistry is Imogen Goddard Jones with A*AA.

Amongst a number of students who will begin degree courses at the University of Bristol are Isha Boota with AAAB who will read Law; and Sannah Bouzeghoub with AAA who will read Film and Television with Innovation.

With AAB, Alfie Boyd has secured a place at the University of Cardiff to read Law where he will pursue his goal of becoming a lawyer.

Alfie’s mum Amy said:

We’re absolutely delighted with Alfie’s results and couldn’t be more proud of him. He’s worked incredibly hard and deserves every success, especially because these are the first exams he’s ever taken, due to GCSEs being teacher-assessed during lockdown.

This cohort of Year 13's has been a real inspiration to everyone at MHS. I joined the school at the same time as these students in September 2015 and it has been both a pleasure and a privilege to see them grow into exceptional young adults who will make a real difference in their academic fields, professions and communities. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, our students worked with resilience and supported each other, remaining optimistic and good humoured throughout. The dedicated staff at MHS and V6 have worked tirelessly to ensure that every student has been able to achieve their full potential.

We’re delighted to be celebrating the exceptional achievements of our students today, many of whom have secured university places at impressive destinations. I am equally proud of those students who have made considerable progress in the sixth form, including Dania Amin who achieved A-level BBC and EPQ C; and Geetika Goel who achieved A-level A*AB. Both students surpassed their original target grades, with Dania securing a place at the University of the West of England to read Nursing; and Geetika heading to the University of Bath to read Economics. I would also like to congratulate those students who overcame adversity to move forward towards their dream careers. Well done to everyone.

V6 is a successful and growing sixth form with 92 students in the current Year 13 cohort, 96 in the current Year 12 cohort and 122 students, including a high number from other secondary schools, who have accepted an offer to study at V6 from September 2022.

MHS and V6 are part of Venturers Trust which is sponsored by the Society of Merchant Venturers and the University of Bristol. As the sponsor, the University of Bristol provides a guaranteed reduced offer (a grade reduction of up to two grades below the standard entry requirements) or interview, depending on the course chosen, for all V6 students with the potential to study there; and the Society of Merchant Venturers provides an extensive range of work experience programmes available to all V6 students, as well as delivering career talks, mock interviews and mentoring.
